The WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines is designed for anyone wishing to gain a broad understanding of the world’s wines, including the major wine styles, key grape varieties, and the principal wine-producing regions. It is suitable for both wine professionals and enthusiasts. While the course covers a wide range of topics, it does not require the level of independent study expected for the WSET Level 3 Award. Thanks to its excellent balance between course content and study commitment, together with the quality of the tasting experience, it is the world’s most popular wine qualification.
The course covers the fundamentals of viticulture, winemaking, the principal grape varieties and wine styles, food and wine pairing, and systematic wine tasting. Throughout the programme, participants will taste approximately 40 wines. The complete course specification can be viewed and downloaded further down this page (we highly recommend taking a look).
There is no requirement to complete the WSET Level 1 Award before enrolling in the WSET Level 2 Award. The two qualifications are designed to meet different learning needs rather than being strictly progressive. Level 1 provides a concise introduction to wine, while Level 2 offers a more comprehensive exploration, including the fundamentals of viticulture, winemaking, grape varieties, and wine styles.
The course includes 16 hours of classroom tuition, a 1-hour examination, and approximately 11 hours of recommended private study. Study materials are sent to the address provided during registration and are usually delivered within two working days in Italy. Printed course materials are supplied for classroom courses; however, if you prefer the official WSET eBook, please let us know when registering. Please note that in this case printed materials will not be sent. We recommend allowing around ten days of study before the examination.
The WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines qualification is awarded upon successful completion of the final examination, which consists of 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 60 minutes. The exam takes place on the third day of the course, from approximately 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. If you do not pass the examination, you may resit the exam without attending the course again (see resit fees). Results are sent by email approximately four weeks after the examination.
Successful candidates will receive the official WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines digital certificate and will be entitled to use the corresponding WSET certification logo alongside their name.
Special Offer: Students enrolling in both the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines at the same time will receive a 7% discount on the WSET Level 3 course.
